This March has been a super busy month! I’ve spent nearly the entirety in York, with just a quick daytrip with work. But a lot has happened, and the month has flown by! Here’s everything that I got up to in March.
Where I Went
York (United Kingdom)
Brussels (Belgium)
Best Moments
Adam is much better and back at work! By far the best part of the month was Adam’s hospital appointment at the beginning of the month. He is healing well and he was signed off to go back to work! Woohoo!!! After such a horrible injury and being cooped up for so long, it was by far the best news of the month. We don’t have to cancel more trips, and hopefully he’ll be cleared to run, climb, hike, and exercise like normal at the beginning of April!
Celebrating our 3-year wedding anniversary. Last year Adam and I took a quick weekend trip to Dublin to celebrate our wedding anniversary. This year I was working all day, and so we just went out to eat at a restaurant we’ve been meaning to try out since we moved. We had delicious food at Rustique and it was so special to go out to eat like normal after such a difficult few months. I am so grateful, every single day, that we get to be together.
Seeing York come to life this spring! York is gorgeous year-round. But spring is an especially beautiful time in the city. It is by far my favorite season. Flowers and blossoms come to life and turn York into this beautiful place I’m so lucky to call home. I’ve made sure to make plenty of time on days off to photograph my favorite places and gardens around the city. I just love seeing everything come to life!
Spending a (very) brief day in Brussels with work. One Wednesday this month, I got sent on the Eurostar to visit Brussels for the day for work. It was mainly to see Eurostar and how the stations/check-in/transportation is. But we had about 45 minutes in actual Brussels and that was enough time to get a waffle! I went with a really fun group of people and despite one of us forgetting their tickets (!) and nearly losing their iPad (!!!), we had a nice time. It was a long day—leaving York at 7:00am and getting back just before 9:00pm—but worth it. If only for the waffle!
MY PARENTS HAVE PLANE TICKETS BOOKED! This summer my parents are coming to visit me in the UK. And they’ve finally booked their tickets!!! (Or, more precisely, I booked their tickets for them so I could get the credit card points 😉 ) My dad went to Scotland about 7 years ago, and they both came to visit me when I was studying abroad in Nottingham 5 years ago. But they haven’t been since I moved 2.5 years ago, they haven’t been to York, and they haven’t seen this part of the country at all. I am SO EXCITED for them to come over and to get to share my world with them. It is very exciting news!!!
Some good financial news. After such a shit few weeks since the start of this year, it was a relief to finally get some good news. Our travel insurance processed our claim for having to cancel our trip to Greece, and has already paid the money out and put it in my bank account. It’s only a couple hundred pounds, but it is so nice to have one less thing to worry about. I also got some really amazing news about my student loans. I had to recalculate my monthly payments, and they’re now set to be ~$100+ less than I was expecting. This is AMAZING! Not only am I going to be able to afford my visa when it comes time to renew in May, but I’ll even be able to overpay a bit on my loans!
Having a weekend off with good weather! This last weekend has been gorgeous here in York. It really does feel like spring and as soon as I finished work on Friday, it was straight to one of my favorite pubs to enjoy a pint in the sunshine by the river. Adam was off with no plans this weekend, which was fantastic! We had ice cream in the gardens, walked around the City Walls on a blissfully quiet morning, and just enjoyed the sunshine and the time off work. It was just a very perfect, relaxing, chill weekend, and very much what I needed!
Worst Moments
Lots of work. I’ve been working a lot this month, mainly to make up for barely being around next month! I’ve been trying to take off as few days as possible, in order to have extra days off when my parents come visit this summer. It will be totally worth it, but it does mean I’ve been working stretches of 7 days in a row, day off, then 4 days (or vice versa). It does drag a bit and it can be exhausting. I’ve been tired and it’s been hard to keep on top of normal things like going to the gym and doing laundry.
Flooding in York. I’m lucky in that I don’t live by the river and this doesn’t affect me all that much. But York floods every year, and this month saw some pretty serious flooding and damage. They had to close the pub, which means it’s really serious!!
Besides that, there’s been nothing else to discuss about the worst moments. And for that, I am so, so incredibly grateful.

Coming Up In April
April is set to be one of the most exciting months I’ve had in ages! Adam and I are headed to Malta for a few days on a short break at the beginning of the month. Neither of us have ever been, and I’m really excited to see what it’s like! Two days later, I’ll be heading off to Canada on a big work trip. I’ll get to see Vancouver and the Canadian Rockies on the Rocky Mountaineer! I’ve only been to Quebec and based in Quebec City for about 10 days so I’m so excited to see another part of such a beautiful country. The rest of the month will be back at work, but I’m so excited! Stay tuned!
